Land swap on track between L-Bar Ranch and Mt Taylor District
The long awaited land swap between L-Bar Ranch and Mount Taylor District of Cibola National Forest moves ahead. It would trade 11 319 acres owned by the federal government for 12 252 acres owned by L-Bar Ranch, about 33 miles northeast of Grants. Open houses are planned May 23 at Cibola County Convention Center and May 24 at the Albuquerque Hilton to discuss environmental impact and gather public comments. The swap aims to improve access, consolidate boundaries, and make Forest land contiguous with L-Bar holdings.

Indictments in Grants span sex crime to weapons case
A Grants grand jury indicted Ernest Edwards for criminal sexual penetration in the third degree involving another male. Abraham Mescal faced aggravated DWI and open container charges after a March 20 arrest. Jeremy Torrez was charged with unlawful carrying of a deadly weapon on school grounds. Michael Candelaria was indicted on two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor from April 10 in Milan. Two Californians, David Hunsker and Ericka Goodwin, faced charges for receiving or transferring a stolen vehicle from an April 15 incident. Lanarita Howeya is charged with bringing contraband into a prison. In separate matters Judge Joseph Arite sentenced Benito Rodriguez for aggravated battery and Irvin Tsosie for a third offense DWI.

Gallup police say three youths confessed to a six month spree of graffiti across 46 locations including downtown, West Side, Rio West Mall and Sun Dance areas. Brandon Barton 17 known as DMPR led the ring, Christopher ee 17 tagged Red Hill Mobile Home Park as East Side Locos, and Juan Arellanas 15 confessed to South Side Locos vandalism.
