Gallup High considers new sites for costly graduation
The Gallup School District faces rising costs to stage graduation at Red Rock Park. This year the ceremony cost about 6475 dollars, a jump from about 2000 dollars a few years earlier. Superintendent Ray Arsenault says the district will explore other sites next year. Mayor Jackie McKinney notes the park costs are not free and city officials want fair treatment for all users. Bert Welsh cites a 2006 city fee plan and says a three day graduation this year included a district discount.

Baby kicked in head during fight near Crownpoint
A 3 week old baby Kaylee Lewis was allegedly kicked in the head during an argument between Felisha Natonabah and intoxicated boyfriend Kevin Lewis on April 26 off Navajo Route 9 west of Crownpoint. Lewis was charged with aggravated battery endangering the welfare of a minor and battery.

Gallup man Alex Redhorse charged with double murder
The arrest affidavit identifies 18 year old Alex Redhorse as charged with two counts of first degree murder and four counts of tampering with evidence. He is held in Gallup McKinley County Adult Detention Center with a $250,000 cash bond. A preliminary hearing began but was continued after a key witness could not be located. the file was later unsealed. Witnesses include Redhorse’s mother Sylvia Largo and his brother and sister, with potential testimony from an unidentified male. The case concerns the deaths of Dusty Rye and Alec Armsey, both 20, whose burned bodies were found on April 18.

Injured climber rescued in Zuni Mountains
Alex Pallant, 50, of Prewitt, was rock climbing near Hidden Valley five miles southwest of Milan when a carabiner failed and he fell about 20 feet. Responders from Cibola County Sheriff's Office Emergency Management and other agencies coordinated a helicopter rescue after limb carries and backboard use to lift Pallant from the cliff.
