Incomplete text describes a track owner denying a loss of eight laps and asserting safety. A Saturday incident is referenced with a remark that the event was wonderful, but many names and details are missing.
A man was found stabbed to death in an undeveloped lot between Payday Loan and Coronado Motel on east US 66. The body lay under a white sheet as winds whipped the area while investigators and police worked the scene and questioned witnesses. Two others were hospitalized with stab wounds. a third person suffered a non life threatening back wound. No arrests yet. Detectives continued inquiries as of 9 p.m. and planned more information Wednesday morning.
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Gallup offers a 400 W. Aztec Ave property for sale once slated as Sacred Heart Cathedral site. Plans began in 1953 with architect John Gaw Meem, Bishop Espelage’s residence nearby, and a 1955 dedication program noting delays from WWII and postwar costs. Groundbreaking occurred July 20, 1953 before foundation work paused.
