Escaping from jail on a moonlit roof in Gallup
Three inmates escaped from the McKinley County Adult Detention Center on October 4. Richard Martinez, 25, and two others slid down a rope made of bed sheets from the jail roof to the ground. Martinez described the night as an adrenaline rush and a rare moment of freedom as they felt their way by moonlight.

A 31 year old Sheep Springs man Shawn Coleman died in a two car collision on US 666 near milepost 7 at about 4 30 p m Thursday Police said alcohol contributed to the crash A southbound car driven by Richard Ward 54 of Bountiful Utah swerved but couldn't avoid colliding with Coleman s Ford Escort Ward and his four children ages 3 to 13 were taken to Gallup hospital in stable condition with the family later released A strong odor of alcohol and two 24 ounce malt liquor cans were found in Coleman's car The Navajo Nation Fire and Rescue had to cut Coleman from the wreckage The incident occurred between Gallup and Shiprock Fields Officer hits horse during patrol near Gallup a Navajo Department of Law Enforcement officer struck and killed a horse early Thursday morning the driver Charles Josley 59 of Bread Springs was not injured The collision occurred in Spencer Valley amid snow and fog as the officer responded to a traffic call No injuries were reported to the officer and the patrol vehicle sustained moderate damage"
