Poet brings vivid imagery to Gallup
Acoma writer Simon Ortiz known for vivid Southwestern Native life delivers a reading at the University of New Mexico Gallup campus. Sponsored by Cultural Arts Committee, the event at Calvin Hall auditorium starts at 7 p.m. Ortiz, a prolific poet and essayist, has published more than 12 books and translated work into several languages. He will read poetry from Woven Stone and stories from Men on the Moon, reflecting Gallup as a key border town in his Native American narratives.

Old School Gallery revives El Morro community hub
The vacant El Morro schoolhouse becomes the Old School Gallery a center for traditional and contemporary arts.
