Navajo community aids Hobbs orphans after tragedy
In Navajo New Mexico a sobering tragedy struck the Hobbs family when Ray 36 Christine 34 and their 8 month old daughter Shasawn were killed by a suspected drunk driver on Route 66 in Gallup. The six Hobbs children age 16 to 5 remain with grandparents as relatives consider housing options to keep the siblings together. The town organized fundraisers at Navajo Pine High School where the girls play basketball and the community gathered later at the high school cafeteria to share memories and donate for funerals and support for the children.

Sen Gloria Howes of Gallup New Mexico plans retirement from the state senate after 51 years but seeks a part time job. St Michaels Elementary School eighth grader Alfredo Begaye won the Gallup Independent Navajo Nation Spelling Bee with five correct words in about 20 minutes securing an all expenses paid trip to the Scripps-Howard National Spelling Bee in June.
