GALLUP A local businessman was arrested Thursday afternoon after a week long investigation by the district attorney s office into suspected criminal solicitation. Charles M Kline 705 N Mission was arrested about 4 p m at his home. He was released without bail about three hours later by Magistrate Paris Pete Derizotis. Kline is the owner of Indian Capital Security Patrol on North Mission. District Attorney Forrest Buffington said this morning that criminal solicitation is soliciting someone to commit a crime. He added that that charge a degreed felony usually has an underlying crime associated with it. Buffington did not say what that alleged crime may have been in Kline s case. McKinley County Sheriff Felix Begay said the district attorney requested two uniformed deputies Thursday afternoon to make the arrest. He said he did not know why city police were not called in to make the arrest, which occurred within city limits.
Dine Bureau reports Navajo tribal officials agree water conservation is best to ward off drought problems. Acting Emergency Management Director James Turquoise says conditions not bad enough to declare a disaster on the reservation. Advisory Committee votes 11 to 0 to accept reports and add recommendations on water catchment, livestock rounds, and drought funding.
The Zuni Police Department spokesman said the tribe issued a total fireworks ban last year and will likely enforce the rule during the upcoming events. The crackdown aims to prevent injuries and fires while celebrations proceed.
