Senate committee restores IHS funds to Shiprock and Tohatchi clinics

The Senate Appropriations Committee restored about 9.4 million for Shiprock Hospital and 3.84 million for Tohatchi Health Clinic as part of a 63.2 million increase to the IHS budget in the 1995 Interior Appropriations Bill. Senators Jeff Bingaman and Pete Domenici of New Mexico said the restored funding supports staffing and operations for the Northern Navajo Medical Center nearing completion, boosting projected staffing to about 720 positions.
