Judge Rules on Navajo Boundary in Arizona
Judge Charles Adams of Coconino County ruled that the south shore of the Colorado River marks the Navajo Nation western boundary. Herman Butler of Tuba City challenged a $39 fishing citation, claiming Navajo land. the court found he was on Navajo land and dismissed the ticket. Lawyer Sam Gollis called it a significant tribal sovereignty victory amid state authority debates.

Kids enlist to clean Window Rock for July 4th

Zuni Women Win Governor's Award in New Mexico
Three Zuni women Margaret Posedo Catherine Offutt and Jean Othole have been named recipients of the 11th annual Governor's Award for Outstanding New Mexico Women. Nominations came from family friends or colleagues and a panel selected the winners. Woman testifies in Gamerco knife threat case
Cecilia Gonzales testified she pulled a .25 caliber pistol on a woman who advanced with a knife in December 1994 in Gamerco after warning her to stop. Gonzales, charged with attempted first degree murder, described the knife threat and her fear as she reached for her purse and fired. The trial, moved for pretrial publicity concerns, continued in San Juan County with prosecution resting and defense presenting witnesses.
