Stone masons revive Navajo Citadel ruins in New Mexico

Stone masons repaired the Citadel near Bloomfield by applying native clay mortar to stabilized walls. The two story Navajo ruin, part of a 1700s site in the Gobernador and Largo Canyons area, saw renovations completed in mid May with collaboration from the New Mexico State Land Office and San Juan County Museum Association. Archaeologists confirm Navajo origin from artifacts, noting the site likely served defense, raids, and seasonal living/storage uses.
