Woman on trial for attempted murder in 1994 Gamerco shooting
Cecelia Gonzales 43 of Twin Buttes faces an attempted first degree murder charge for shooting Betty Baumgardner 53 at the Gamerco Water and Sanitation District office on December 15 1994. Witnesses testified Gonzales asked others to help and hid her hands during investigators’ photos. The case was moved to Farmington for impartial jury selection after pre trial publicity in Gallup. Baumgardner resides part time in Gamerco and Los Lunas while Gonzales has since moved from Gamerco to Twin Buttes. Wade Elkins Navajo Shopping Center manager recalled Gonzales shouting for help and confirming Baumgardner as the victim.
