Free Hepatitis A Vaccines For McKinley County Kids
Special to the Independent Gallup announces that starting in July the McKinley County Public Health Office will offer free hepatitis A vaccines to children ages two through six. The three shot series is available during regular immunization visits or preschool shots, per Pat Doiron. Hepatitis A is a liver disease spread mainly by close contact or contaminated food or water, with a record rise in McKinley County since 1994 and over 800 affected. Doiron says vaccination aims to protect about three months and reduce severe illness including jaundice and abdominal pain.
