Four youths held in Ya-Ta-Hay service station burglary
Four suspects were jailed in McKinley County after a 1:38 a.m. burglary at a Ya-Ta-Hay service station near the U S 666 and State Route 68 junction. Vernon Halona 18 Gamerco Presley Curley 19 Gallup and two juveniles ages 16 and 17 were captured by Deputy Earl Duncan and State Policeman Al Lipetsky at 2:12 a.m. Auto accessories were recovered and charges are pending against the two adults. Juvenile authorities were notified about the younger boys. A night watchman fired two shots at a fleeing car.

Trucker Injured In Hit and Run Near Gallup
A 25 year old Ft Collins driver Edward Paine of Don Warren and Co was found injured after a hit and run on U S 666 about 11 miles north of Gallup. Paine suffered shoulder and leg injuries and possible head injury while checking tires on an acid trailer. The trucks were en route from Uravan to Grants, Colorado.

Prairie dog bites six year old son of Joyce Spiros
Phillip Dean aged six was bitten on the right middle finger by a prairie dog he tried to pick up. The animal was killed by police and sent to Gallup Animal Clinic for bubonic plague and rabies tests. The boy received medical treatment and no other prairie dogs were found nearby. In a separate note a forged $25 check was cashed at Trice's Western Wear, drawn on First State Bank and signed Don McKinney for Margaret Blackbird.

Man Gardner Pleads Guilty in Family Mistreatment Case
Paul Kenny Gardner aged 40 of Jeddito Arizona changed his plea to guilty on a family mistreatment charge before jury selection in Prescott federal court. He faces one to ten years for the mistreatment conviction and had spent about a year in jail awaiting trial. Gardner was originally scheduled for trial Thursday and had been charged with sexual relations with a female relative. He was sentenced to one year in the federal penitentiary on his guilty plea.
