A Gallup Independent report notes cloudy skies expected today with Sunday forecast. Yesterday’s high reached 94 degrees at 6:00 p.m. and the low was 52 at 5:00 a.m., recorded at the Gallup office downtown.

The National Weather Service forecast fair weather as the system moved east.

The May 28 start in Syracuse and July 19 finish in Los Angeles frame a protest run against Olympic officials ban on Iroquois Confederacy representatives. The Jim Thorpe Memorial Games and Pow Wow will share the LA stage with the Olympics, as protesters seek inclusion.
Sen Edward Kennedy will endorse Mondale for the 1984 Democratic nomination and meet Mondale at his St Paul home as Mondale prepares to interview two more prospective running mates, Lloyd Bentsen and Dianne Feinstein. Mondale has held talks with Gary Hart, Tom Bradley, and Geraldine Ferraro, with Hart expressing continued campaign vigor and openness to a future meeting without an agenda.
Washington reports say right wing figures including a politician tied to death squads plotted to kill Ambassador Thomas Pickering. The plan allegedly involved Jorge d Aubuisson and drew comment from Sen. Jesse Helms and Reagan administration officials. Pickering denied taking sides while U S officials warned of risks in El Salvador's runoff.
Nielson Inc of Cortez Colorado offers the apparent low bid for a Gallup area project covering 23 miles of pavement overlay on Interstate 40 and New Mexico 400. The bid totals 7,174,183 dollars, about 455,995 dollars under the Department of Transportation estimates. Other bids on seven projects added to 12,086,109 dollars with the low bidders totaling 12,432,700 dollars.
The Republican Party of McKinley County Wilbold County schedules a mass meeting precinct convention on Tuesday June 26 at 7 30 PM in the Chamber of Commerce Kiva Room.
