Gallup four to attend International Special Olympics
Four Gallup youths John Hiskey Molly Durante Emmanuel Jim and Lucinda Henderson will travel to Brockport New York this summer for the International Special Olympics August 8 to 13 with participants from every state and 22 foreign countries The group was chosen by teachers for their interest ability and potential benefit They will be joined by Sharon Mraz NM advance person who will also attend New York meet and arrange rooms bus transport and other accommodations Local backers with Special Olympics IDs will raise funds to help cover travel costs Meanwhile Gallup paving progresses with Hamilton Construction paving near 11th Street Wilson Avenue in Northside and upcoming work in Victoria Pershing and Toltec areas.

City schedules paving work and officials’ appointments
City Manager Paul McCollum outlined a summer paving plan prioritizing the most needed areas and possible water and sewer line work. Mayor Wayne Lewis announced Tuesday council appointments including a new Joint Powers Development Commission chair and two more members, plus four McKinley Area Council of Governments seats and one Gallup Inter-agency Alcoholism Coordinating Committee post. Gallup Ladies Golf Association will play Tuesday at 8:30 am with a luncheon at Pal Joeys. A reception for Bobby Masters, new MASH director, is Wednesday at 3:30 pm, and United Way of Gallup McKinley County directors meet Monday at 7 pm to plan the 1979 campaign.

Attendance climbs to about 6 000 for the last night at Red Rock State Park outdoor arena as 7:30 p m show caps a week of rodeo events. Organizers credit good weather, free tickets for seniors and handicapped guests, and stock contractor Buster Webb for the high turnout. Proceeds support the city. a parade and children's rodeo preceded the finale with tickets available at the gate.
