More than 500 North Vietnamese soldiers stormed a U.S. artillery base 15 miles north of Tay Ninh City. U.S. casualties were seven killed and 18 wounded with total U.S. toll 15 killed and 48 wounded in 24 hours. 72 enemy troops killed in the assault. South Vietnamese casualties also reported.
In Crownpoint a morning field ceremony is planned to honor all previous Navajo Tribal leaders. Councilmen and local officials will attend as part of the Stand Field Ground event starting at 10 a.m.
President Nixon voiced hope for massive Vietnam troop withdrawals by year end and an inflation slow down within two to three months. He cited a June summit plan to pull 25,000 troops, promised a August review, and warned against rising prices and interest rates while ruling out no action.
