Taxpayers foot bill for Becenti sexual settlement
McKinley County Commissioner Earnest Becenti Sr and a former county employee reached a June 2 sexual harassment settlement reportedly totaling 180000 dollars. Insurance through the New Mexico Association of Counties will cover most costs, with taxpayers covering a 5000 dollar deductible. Becenti also faces misdemeanor battery charges from October 1998, with a August court date set in San Juan County.

Earl Snodgrass a 48 year old Grants man died at the Solid Waste Transfer Station west of Milan while operating a Bobcat tractor with a forklift. He was crushed when the vehicle tipped on an embankment and fell on him. State police ruled it a fatal industrial accident as the Occupational Safety and Health Act investigates.

Good land management means less erosion in Thoreau
