The chef family recalls setting out tomato plants that froze after a cold night. They later bought hardy plants and built a plastic greenhouse but the new crop also withered. The note ends with a humorous image of searching the supermarket produce department.
Roswell resident John H. Parrott was chosen for a second three year term on the executive committee of the Southern Baptist Convention in Houston. The action was reported by AP.
A Bow Street hearing is scheduled for June 27 on the U S government request to extradite James Earl Ray to stand trial for murder and mars neline in Memphis. Ray's British attorney requests time to prepare a case as two Birmingham attorneys travel to London to assist. The magistrate aims for a quick decision after the hearing. Ray was brought to Bow Street for a second time since his arrest and is returned to Wandsworth Prison.
Trinidad Colorado chamber of commerce reported a flying saucer balloon used as a tourist attraction detached from city hall during the weekend and flew away. Dr Ron Sanders president urged anyone who spots an unattached saucer to contact the chamber.
Gallup police report four thefts under investigation. A concession stand at Sta fle Park was broken into, 12 pounds of wieners and 10 candy cartons stolen, value $36. A home at 1204 EB Aztec lost $125 from a piggy bank between June 12 and 14. A break in at 317 N Second yielded $270 and a wrist watch. Items from a trunk included an electric skillet and clothing worth $51. A west side window was left unlocked at 6074 E Aztec where Kay Edward and Darlene Parish live. A motorist struck Elsie Espinosa at 705 N Third. driver fled. A panel and door on a car owned by Peggy Howes at 3400 Church Rock were kicked in, damage $125.
In Gia Dinh suburb 121 enemy soldiers surrendered to South Vietnamese marines after being urged to lay down arms. Viet Cong and North Vietnamese fighters emerged from bunkers surrendering 50 rifles and six heavy weapons. The event followed loudspeaker appeals near the presidential palace, with many surrendering in groups.
The Economic Development Administration approved a 424,800 grant to the Mescalero Apache Reservation announced by New Mexico's congressional delegation. Part of the funds will finance a job training center to prepare tribal members for employment with firms near the reservation. The Indians contribute 70,000 and the government 280,000.
The Supreme Court rules that the 1866 Civil Rights law bars all racial discrimination in sale or rental of housing, private or sanctioned, and declares it a relic of slavery. The decision, 7-2, broadens federal power under the 13th Amendment, with no exceptions noted, allowing African Americans to seek remedies in court.
Walter E. Bruce Jr of the New Mexico Public Service Commission will replace Bill Privetti as Governor David Cargo's administrative assistant. Cargo announced the change Monday in Santa Fe.

Public meetings this week will explain the Inter Tribal Indian Ceremonial center expansion and relocation. The plan envisions a year round cultural, historical, and entertainment site nine miles east of Gallup in Red Rocks canyon with an Indian Hall of Fame and daily exhibits.
The Professional Pharmacy at S10 Hill Street will reopen Thursday June 20 after a short closing period. The daily hours return with exceptions noted and customers urged to verify times.

The job at Administration Office located 17 miles east of Gallup on US Highway 66 requires high school graduation or equivalent and ability to pass a physical examination. Typing is required.
