The State Board of Finance approves a four point five percent loan of 19 750 to McKinley County to fund property reappraisal. The county program costs 39 500 with the state paying half and the Gallup McKinley County school district covering 17 000.
The 18th annual Gallup Lions Club rodeo opened with Charlie Melrose of Gunnison securing bareback riding first at 49 and second in bull riding at 59. Eddie Puckett of Newshoe, Texas earned third in bareback with 44 and won bull riding with 68 as half the entries rode Friday and the remainder compete tonight with top four in each event advancing to share prize money.
New York James H. Meredith, recovering from shotgun wounds suffered June 6, says he will resume his Mississippi march next Wednesday whether he is strong enough. He had planned to resume Monday but a cold slowed his recovery and delayed the march to encourage black voters to register.
The Navajo Tribal Council will meet in special session Monday at 10 a.m. in Window Rock to consider 14 items including Navajo Youth Program rectification, election expense funding, state election matters, general counsel representation, attorney contracts, budget and housing ordinances, Padre's point funds, and council travel allowances.

Amarillo experienced severe flash flooding with 13 inches of rain in one section after two violent storms within hours. A tornado skimmed Reese Air Force Base near Lubbock with no damage reported while twisters were spotted near Orton Levelland and Spade. Hail the size of baseballs and golf balls fell across Spade and northwest Texas as highways flooded from Littlefield to Levelland.
Sen William Proxmire calls a $34 million Capitol facade renovation an extravaganza and insult to Congress. House Speaker McCormack and Senate Leader Dirksen, leading the five member commission, approve the project as the building's most extensive renovation in a century. They warn the front is cracked and could crumble from a minor blast or sonic boom. Timbers have braced cracks since last fall.
