The American Indian College Fund selected her as a model. her image runs in major magazines to raise funds for Native scholarships. Anderson balanced motherhood to son Alfin Jackson with studies, and hopes the exposure increases access to funds for other Native students.
Tuba City High School in Arizona plans a four period day starting this fall with 90 minute classes. Principal LeRoy Shingoitewa says the change will let teachers interact more with about 75 students per day, boosting learning. Board approved unanimously after surveys showing broad support.
The Bureau of Indian Affairs announces a war on camelthorn and Russian knapweed across Dennehotse Kerley Valley Tuba City Leupp and Cameron. About 300 acres of Russian knapweed and 200 acres of camelthorn will be treated with herbicides to reclaim farmland and deter weed invasion. The effort involves BIA Land Operations and seeks Navajo Nation approval for Arizona DOT weed control work.
In a ground breaking ceremony Navajo Nation officials and residents from Nazlini Flatrock and Chinle gathered to honor funding for paving Route 27. Navajo Police Captain Bill Hillgartner praised community policing and the project as an economic and social milestone. A traditional blessing by Medicine man Eli Gorman preceded the festivities with officials including Milford Stanley noting government unity. Local resident Randall Smiley welcomed the road as relief from bouncing along rough surfaces and promised job and business growth with increased tourism and faster emergency response. Senator John Pinto attended as Audra Etslity voiced hopes for safer travel.
