In Albuquerque Joe Arelliano, a Stanford transplant candidate with cardiomyopathy, has seen his condition improve to class 3, delaying a heart transplant. Doctors warn improvement is unusual. funding worries persist as the family seeks $125,000 surgery cost and ongoing post operative care. Donations are sought via First Interstate Bank and the New Mexico Organ Transplant Fund.

State police report Glen Emerson, 43, of Thoreau was struck and killed on New Mexico 122 about 25 miles east of Gallup near the continental divide. The accident happened Thursday night as Emerson stepped into the car’s path. The driver tried to stop but could not avoid the collision. Emerson was pronounced dead at the scene by medical investigator Richard Malone.
