The American School Board Journal features Fire in the Night as its lead article. Walter Kren complains of losing a demolition bid to Albuquerque firm Bradbury and Stamm by five dollars, citing state purchasing laws and local preference rules.
Two separate Sunday crashes east of Thoreau injure eight people, one severely. Olive Ralph of Victorville Calif. suffers a severe head injury when her station wagon rolled after losing control. Five passengers, including Ralph’s husband Franklin and their children, are lightly hurt. the car’s tires had been rotated before departure. In a second crash, Walter Leo Wilson of Albuquerque and John Faulkner were hurt after a semi overturns while diesel fuel is carried. Both victims were treated for scratches and bruises. The Ralph family dog is missing.
A new Family Life Council schedules a 1 p.m. Thursday meeting in City Council chambers to discuss health education welfare and recreation for family life and to coordinate agency efforts. Temporary chair Mrs. Frank B. Thompson invites attendance from individuals clubs and organizations and notes monthly meetings on the third Thursday. Further information is available by mail or phone.
Dr. R. Paul Johnson of Durant Oklahoma has been named deputy director of programs and development at the Guthrie Oklahoma Job Corps Center for Women. His wife is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Harry C Hewett of Gallup New Mexico.
Ceremonial President George Hight announced a government feasibility study contract awarded to Economics Research Associates for an expanded Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial operation. The deal, valued at $50,000 after 18 months of talks, aims to relocate and develop a top Indiana cultural and tourism attraction by 1968 with a year long program of events.
The Navajo Nation revealed a new budget of 15 369 688 dollars, down 2 419 524 from the current budget. Officials said each division faced 2 000 to 3 000 in trims, with Raymond Nakai praising the savings for welfare improvements. The 1966 67 fiscal year budget awaits Bureau of Indian Affairs approval.

Fire began around 3 30 a m in a southeast first floor room.
John Schuelke, Gallup attorney and assistant general counsel of the Navajo Tribe since January, announced his resignation due to heavy workload. The move is tentatively effective June 24, and he will continue his claims contract with the tribe.
A man identified as Dave Henry Jr. sustained undetermined injuries when his semi overturned after leaving U S 66 about a mile east of the New Mexico Arizona border. New Mexico State Police said they are investigating the incident.
A fierce California wildfire rages in the San Raphael Mountains north of Santa Barbara, charred brush and ridges under a scorching sun. Firefighters call it among the toughest jobs as 60,000 acres burned in four days and containment remains distant. Two died in a plane crash nearby. The rugged area is roadless by government design to preserve the terrain.
Gallup city council weighs extending Wilson Avenue west to U.S. 666 after a petition signed by about 85 residents. Officials will consult the Gallup-Gamerco Coal Co. and Washington School to gauge impact while a school group favors a dead‑end for pupil safety.
