Two women arrested over Hillcrest cemetery vandalism in Gallup

Elouise Brown and Roselyn Yazzie, both jailed on state charges of property damage over $2,000, were arrested about 1:20 p.m. near 911 W Aztec Ave. by Gallup police. Police implicate four others and cite extensive damage to the Hillcrest cemetery, including toppled headstones dating to the 1800s and a broken statue enclosure. Cleanup could cost about $12,000 and take a week.

Kennedy suspects GALLUP burglary arrests

Three boys were arrested Monday night in Gallup for the May 31 burglary. More than $6,000 in property was damaged at the school with fingerprints and shoeprints found at the scene. Detectives had not yet matched them to the boys.

Floyd Dawson of Tonalea presented the flag to the war memorial director. after today it goes to the director’s office. Dawson bore rubbings of 36 names, including his brother Jerry Daw killed in 1967. He funds honors for veterans and supports a proposed Veterans Memorial Park awaiting funds.

Bomb Cleared At Malpais National Monument In New Mexico

An old World War II target bomb was detonated by Fort Bliss ordnance teams at the south end of Malpais National Monument near Grants New Mexico. The blast sent a 200 foot cloud as officials warn the volcanic area remains dangerous with unexploded ordnance and advise visitors to stay away from McCarty's Crater.
