Citizens invited to 7:30 p.m. meeting at the Gallup school administration building to hear Neil Hopkins discuss a potential two year branch college. Report favors establishment as a major community advancement but notes it requires land facilities money faculty and sacrifice.
Communists struck a Mekong Delta hamlet near Can Tho killing or wounding about 80 civilians and militiamen. The attack followed by night and extended near the Cambodian border where Viet Cong control parts of the countryside. Ground actions were light outside the delta as U.S. forces reported air strikes destroying six MIGs at Kep Pac base and damaging supply lines from Hanoi to Haiphong.
Dr. J Donald Bowen of UCLA spoke at Wingate High School guiding Navajo Area educators to teach English as spoken, not rigidly. He demonstrated phrases and urged liberal contractions and breaking grammar rules when appropriate to aid language learners.

Jesse Gene Walkins, 15, of Prewitt, was injured Tuesday afternoon in a one vehicle crash on the Transwestern Pipeline Company road one mile north of Thoreau. State Police said he lost control on a curve, the pickup rolled 2 1/2 times, and charges are pending. He was transported to Cibola General Hospital in Grants by Sterling Star ambulance with bruises and a cut on his left leg. the pickup was a total loss.
City officials postponed adoption of a proposed merit system ordinance for employees to allow City Manager John Pena to assess how a new retirement age provision would interact with existing retirement benefits. The council also approved a Navajo Reservoir water contract in principle and considered parking restrictions on Mollica Drive. Additional items included curb cut approvals and pole line hardware bids totaling about 38 000 dollars.
The National Indian Leaders Conference on Tourism opens in Page Arizona with tribal chairs from across the United States. Al fred Wayne Gilpin and Wendell Chino headline sessions, with speakers from the Crow Sioux and other tribes. A Thursday banquet and Glen Canyon Lake tour are planned, sponsored by the Page Chamber of Commerce.
The Albuquerque dispatch reports a second judge was disqualified in the kidnaping and assault case tied to the June 5 Rio Arriba County Courthouse raid.
