Poverty Invades Military Courts Aid Crisis
At Hickam Air Force Base 21 year old Jason Edwards fears North Korea while worried about feeding his wife Beth and two children on a total pay of 1330 dollars a month. The Edwardses began receiving 228 dollars a month in food stamps last month as military families increasingly rely on government assistance. About 3 percent of the 1.7 million service members qualify for food stamps and 1 percent receive them monthly. Defense and Agriculture reports show rising redemptions at military commissaries to 27.4 million dollars last year. Military leaders warn budget cuts and pay raises affect morale and retention.

Firewood permits offered by Mount Taylor Ranger District
The Mount Taylor Ranger District of the Cibola National Forest announces firewood permits for personal use. Permits cost 10 per cord with minimum 20, available for two four or eight cord blocks. Harvest areas match last year with maps at purchase. Permits may be unavailable June 1 to mid July due to summer rains. A free use area in Zuni Basgal and a green wood area on San Mateo Mesa will open after summer rains. Obtain permits at the Mount Taylor Range District Office Grants with hours 8 am to noon and 1-5 pm, Monday through Saturday. Two Women Arrested in Oklahoma Kidnapping Case
