Tribe seeks big damages in Window Rock case against Yellowhorse Jones

The Navajo Tribe asks Window Rock District Court to award between 53 000 and 821 000 in actual damages for a burglary at the Yellowhorse Jones Fort Defiance Trading Post. It also seeks 637 000 in interest plus 9 000 court costs 2 300 in attorney fees and an unlimited amount of punitive damages. Judge Yazzie has not ruled and could award all or none. The suit accuses Jane Yellowhorse Dennis Jones and Mary Ann and Betty Yellowhorse of breach of contract negligence and failing to return tribal arts. The 1083 burglary involved more than 250 000 worth of jewelry stolen from the trading post.

Thoreau Meals on Wheels Drives Through Hard Roads

Navajo Budget Panel Shuts Door on Details for 1987 Plan

At Window Rock the Navajo Budget and Finance Committee closed its session for a second day while debating the 1987 budget and tribal fund investments.
