Gov Toney Anaya concluded a statewide tour as about 70 lawmakers voiced opinions on a limited agenda. The joint Legislative Finance Committee and leadership plan a special session this month to address the agreed topics.
South Africa’s President Botha and Nobel laureate Desmond Tutu met in Cape Town for the first time in six years following a nationwide state of emergency. Details of their 90-minute meeting were disclosed immediately. Tutu, a longtime critic of Botha, had requested the talks.

The Navajo Tribe asks Window Rock District Court to award between 53 000 and 821 000 in actual damages for a burglary at the Yellowhorse Jones Fort Defiance Trading Post. It also seeks 637 000 in interest plus 9 000 court costs 2 300 in attorney fees and an unlimited amount of punitive damages. Judge Yazzie has not ruled and could award all or none. The suit accuses Jane Yellowhorse Dennis Jones and Mary Ann and Betty Yellowhorse of breach of contract negligence and failing to return tribal arts. The 1083 burglary involved more than 250 000 worth of jewelry stolen from the trading post.
Kenneth Hazel and a volunteer deliver hot meals four days a week from St Bonaventure Mission along Route 57 through Navajo country. Each of about 61 miles and three hours, the program serves handicapped and elderly residents, with Hazel preparing meals the day before and aiding beyond delivery.
Gov. Anaya's cuts end youth services in McKinley County for 1986 87. Executive director Doug McMillan says area coverage is large and many clients will lose counseling. Youth services helped 25 to 80 teens monthly with school referrals and probation input.
Roberta Mix, 54, of Carthage, Missouri, died after a car she rode in toward California stopped for aid near a Gallup service station. Vette, 24, reported feeling dizzy as Mix failed to respond to first aid and EMS pronounced her dead at 6:35 a.m. The incident occurred near the New Mexico Arizona state line.
