Navajo Ceremonial News Reach Gallup Amid Flag Day Note

The Navajo arts and education group promotes the Navajo Centennial and Gallup Ceremonial during HemisFair week in San Antonio. Perry Allen leads the delegation with Billy Norton and his daughter demonstrating sand painting and ceremonial dances. Fire at Roswell gas station leaves two men burned

A man burned in a fire at a natural gas compressor station north of Roswell was reported in critical condition at a Roswell hospital. A second man was reported in fair condition. Marvin Johnson, who lived at the compressor station, had burns over 90 percent of his body. Billy Harper of Roswell had burns on 60 percent of his body. Carl Sisson of Transwestern Piper Line Co said the fire, sparked by a 70 percent leak, caused extensive damage and debris clearance would take days.

County Democratic Chairman Plans Precinct Meetings and June Convention

McKinley County Democratic Chairman L. E. Costello announced plans to hold precinct organizations and a county convention on June 22 to comply with state party rules. The move comes amid disputes over a May 14 meeting that named delegates to the state convention. Delegates from precincts 3 and 4 are invited to the Saturday 7:30 p.m. meeting at Cathedral Grade School in Los Lunas.

DEK Processes Inc of Fort Wayne Indiana criticized the New Mexico Motor Vehicle Department as among the nation’s worst run. Ch M Rousseff president of DEK testified in Santa Fe district court as part of a suit the firm filed against the state over a license production contract. Johnson Praises Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty at UN

President Johnson, via surprise visit to the United Nations, praised the nuclear nonproliferation treaty as the most important disarmament agreement since the atomic age. Pan American Boeing 707 undershot the runway in monsoon rain at Calcutta Dum Dum Airport. Six of 63 aboard died, 56 injured, including several in serious condition. Bishop Gilbert Baker of Hong Kong survived. Survivors include 48 passengers and nine crew members.

McKinley County Commissioners approve building a new jail facility by Gallup for rental use by the county. They also plan a courthouse east side parking lot for the Gallup Public Library and expect hospital work to finish by August. Two Gallup youths stabbed amid Wednesday fight

Two Gallup boys injured in a stabbing near Washington School after an argument with rivals. Leonard 14 was stabbed in the left leg and Harker 15 cut on the left hand. A second incident involved a quarrel with threats of a rifle and a punch. A cornet stolen from Gallup High School and $165 missing from a wallet were reported.

Gallup Lions Rodeo Parade Set For Saturday Fun

The Gallup Lions Club Rodeo weekend features a Saturday parade with queen Sharon Lewis and many entrants. Participants include two sheriff's vehicles, an Indian dance group, Greasewood boarding school, Gallup High School band, Navajo tribal band, and several walking units. Lewis, a 1967 Gallup High graduate, is rodeo queen after winning a June 4 talent contest for guitar playing. She also received a western outfit from Lee's and a $50 Savings Bond. Her roles include cowgirl activities like cattle drive, motorcycle use, and branding, plus ranch roundup work near Zuri this spring.
