Weekend fires keep Sanders firefighters busy in Arizona
Western New Mexico and eastern Arizona faced storm lightning that sparked several fires. Puerco Valley Fire Department battled Allentown and other blazes, with 120 firefighters by Monday morning as state crews relieved them. The largest arc was east of Witch Wells burning over 600 acres of grassland.

Gallup Weekend Marijuana Busts Reported
Gallup Police arrested several people in marijuana related incidents Saturday. Garrison Tsosie 20 of Fort Defiance Anderson Begay 18 of Gallup and Robert Jenson 22 of Window Rock faced charges including distributing to a minor and contributing to delinquency. Additional arrests included Travis Yellowhair 15 and Brian Yazzie 17 for drinking as minors. A citizen tipped police to marijuana plants found near a front yard and Eugene Guerito 23 and Karijeane Guerito 24 faced related charges.

Vandals strike Gallup Central High in weekend damage
Gallup police investigated graffiti and smashed windows at Gallup Central High School after a weekend incident. Principal Chuck Moore reported a damaged computer monitor and four classroom windows, two wooden doors damaged beyond repair, and a wall message reading This is for you. Police were notified at 9 18 a m Sunday. The city council also announced a special meeting for July 13 1996 to discuss the citys insurance program with the New Mexico Self-Insurers Fund.

Hopi Tribe approves new comprehensive health benefit plan
The Hopi Tribal Council adopted Resolution H-92-96 and H-95-96 to create a full, comprehensive health package for all regular full-time employees, effective July 1 with an estimated enrollment of 400. It covers medical, dental, vision, life, accidental death dismemberment, and long term disability, with the tribe paying 100 percent of premiums for eligible employees. Dependents can enroll at their own cost.
