Multiple Fatalities in Two Area Vehicle Crashes
In Ramah and nearby areas, two accidents Thursday left five dead and many injured. A pickup and a Volkswagen overturned after a passing attempt near Ramah. teenagers were among the injured, with victims identified as Leonard Pino and Glenn Pino, both Ramah residents, and Katherine Lucero driving the pickup. A second crash on State Road 57 near Thoreau killed Alfred Platéro Morgan Larry Joe and Tax Martinez. Martin Martinez drove the truck with two others injured, and Joseph F. Martinez survived.

Fire Charred 15 Acres in Zuni Mountain Blaze
It appears more than 15 acres were burned in the sixth fire since Sunday in the Zuni Mountain area near Mt Taylor. Emilio Montoya fire control officer of the Cibola National Forest Ranger Station said Friday the blaze, thought to be lightning sparked, drifted smoke across New Mexico Route 53 and reduced visibility. Crews fought the fire all night and containment status remained uncertain Friday morning.
