Former Gallup Man Dies in Phoenix After Accident

C Joy Davis formerly of Gallup died June 2 in Phoenix from injuries from May 31 accident on the St Johns highway. High winds blew his car off course injuring three grandsons. Davis and family were en route to Ramah for a four day reunion of nine Davis siblings. Surviving: wife Eulla Merrill Davis. three daughters. eleven grandchildren. eight siblings. Gallup Lions Rodeo Parade Set For Next Saturday

Accident Kills Five Near Port Royal Virginia

A Greyhound bus carrying servicemen collided with a southbound pickup camper near Port Royal Virginia. Five people died including the two drivers and 11 others injured. The pickup occupants were Paul Crum Patty Crum and Mary Kalmink. Bus victims included operator Robert Baine and Douglas Josue an 8 serviceman aboard the Forrestal.

Zuni Child Killed by Automobile on State Road 53

Three year old Bennie Lee Waikaniwa of Zuni died after being struck by a car driven by Harrington Paquin 19 of Zuni east of town on State Road 53. A second unnamed child nearby was not hit. Waikaniwa was thrown 34 feet. death occurred en route to PHS Hospital in Gallup. State Police and Bureau of Indian Affairs investigated.

Paratrooper Action Near Kontum Amid Rising Bloodshed

Reports say a paratrooper led survivors to safety 30 miles northwest of Kontum City as North Vietnamese forces attacked. The battle near the depot on U.S. 66 to Coal valley area left 385 enemy dead, with ARVN and U.S. troops holding positions amid rugged, bamboo clad terrain.

Robbery Flight Ends in Alaska

In Ketchikan Alaska two men identified as Larry Cres 26 and James Harkenson 27 of Everett Washington chartered a plane and flew to Sitka where they robbed the Pioneer Bar taking 2500. Police caught them in the woods 15 miles north of Ketchikan Friday night they were charged with armed robbery and bail set at 10000 each.

Man Hurt In Wreck Near Chinle, Arizona

Joseph Mathews, 43, superintendent of Chinle schools, suffered head lacerations when his car left the road and struck a rocky bank three miles west of the U.S. 666 and SR 68 junction. He was taken to St Mary’s Hospital in not serious condition. The state owned the car, and officials say the crash is under investigation with no charges filed. Mathews had been drinking.

Ray mond Abeyta, a former Crownpoint janitor, won a personal injury verdict for 60 000 against Robert K Burns Construction Hanna Plumbing and Heating and Millington Lugton Architects. He sought 155 643 49 claiming negligence after a September 8 1961 explosion during a Crownpoint teacherage fire light. Suburban Gas Utility was dismissed as defendant after affidavits showed no negligence by the gas company.

Dispute Settled at Public Health Hospital Ft Defiance

An Indian health official said grievances at the U S Public Health Service Hospital at Ft Defiance Arizona have been settled after an investigation by four civil service workers.
