Volunteers led by Mayor Bob County Schools office and Sami Daniels assist seniors and the community on Saturdays and weekdays. Thoreau Chapter selects six nominees for council delegate

Thoreau Chapter members began the selection process Monday for the single seat on the Navajo tribal council. Six local residents were nominated and the top three advance to the August 12 primary. the field narrows to two for the November general election. Nominees include Jackson Gibson Ben Shelley Paulson Chace Watson Gibson Sr David Henie and Charley Long. 429 votes were cast. Watson Gibson pledged to work with the Thoreau community and with McKinley County officials. He also cited plans for water programs for hogans and Paradise Pass improvements. Long emphasized housing roads and veterans cemetery as priorities and urged action over promises. Henio aimed at greater representation in Window Rock and focus on Mount Powell land use and chapter finances. Other Monday nominations included Betty Yazzie Joald Suarez Bertha Shorty and Roy Mariano.
