Bear Wilson's killer flees court after no show
Reginald Begay, 19, fled sentencing for causing a death with a motor vehicle and DUI in the March 20 Navajo Route 12 crash that killed 23 year old Kimberly Mae Bear Wilson near Window Rock. A no contest plea had been entered May 6 with a bond forfeiture and an order to show cause against his attorney. Begay remains at large. a new sentencing date will be set once captured. The incident occurred as Wilson, off work at a nearby gas station, was struck by Begay’s 1994 Chevrolet pickup three miles north of the death scene. The Navajo Nation Police stopped Begay north of Fort Defiance on the night of the crash.

Navajo Budget Panel Imposes Moratorium On Undesignated Reserve
The Navajo Nation Budget and Finance Committee on Tuesday halted requests from the undesignated reserve fund as it dries up. A June 15 resolution will formalize the moratorium, drawing protests from Ch Oosh Gai Community School which sought 450000 for an 8500 square foot building. The panel tabled the request and reviewed 37 supplemental filings totaling 22.2 million, noting five departmental demands exceeding 9.4 million. The fund now sits at 4.3 million, under 10 percent of its target.

College youths will be helped by a Navajo program

In three years Navajo student retention grew from under 50 percent to over 88 percent.
