Federal workers on the Navajo reservation warn tribal income taxes would be unfair to non members and harm recruitment. Dr Marga Wastalu of the Indian Health Service in Tsaile says two taxes without representation hurt. Dr Dave Lang, IHS chief medical officer, says the tax could drive away doctors and nurses, worsening shortages at Chinle Service Unit as IHS salaries lag private practice. The proposal would tax incomes under 15 000 at 1 percent, between 15 000 and 50 000 at 2 percent, and over 50 000 at 3 percent.

Youth convicted for graffiti offense in Gallup court
17 year old Rosel Long was found guilty of spray painting graffiti on a culvert near 10th Street and Maloney Avenue on November 13. He also was convicted of consuming alcohol and simple assault. a separate graffiti attack on the Independent offices was dropped for lack of violence.
