In Window Rock Arizona residents say a youth gang named the Cobras has turned streets and dirt paths near the town center unsafe after dark. Parents, fearing retribution, met with reporters while urging action as law enforcement is seen as ineffective.
Mayor George Galanis announced eight candidates were interviewed for Gallup city manager with four outsiders from Hawthorne Albany and Wilsonville among them. He said local candidates may still be chosen but hired outsiders could cost about 45 000 annually, down from 55 000. Decision expected soon with no clear next steps.

NCC upgraded to computer controlled operator equipment and will keep about 40 Native American jobs. The Dine Association plans homes for the handicapped off Route 160 near Tuba City, halted by a Bennett Freeze injunction.
Two men robbed the Gas-A-Mat at 2908 E Highway 66 at 9 48 p m taking about 300 selectors and Yazzie purse with no money. A white man with a weave net and a Hispanic lookout fled in a small white car east on Highway 66.
