Gallup policemen aid search for raid suspects

Three Gallup district state policemen Sam Tow Al Lipetzky and Gene Molina were sent to Canjilon to aid in the Rio Arriba County courthouse raider search. They worked a roadblock and patrol duty while Tow and Saiz share a state police recruit school history.

Guardsmen seize vehicle in search for armed fugitives

Police impounded a car believed used in the fatal shooting of Kenneth Eugene Jacobs after a court order by District Judge Frank B. Zinn. The right door will be tested at the FBI Laboratory for foreign material. No arrests reported. The shooting occurred as Jacobs spoke with bystanders near the El Corral on U.S. 66. Jacobs’ half-sister Mrs. Martyn Scott had been killed by stabbing at a Winslow tavern weeks earlier.

U S planes faced heavy anti aircraft fire as they bombed rail yards and bridges north of Hanoi in multiple strikes. Gallup Moves Toward Federal Funds via Housing Plan Update

Well Drilling Contract Awarded for Beshbito School

A 47 550 contract for drilling three water wells at Beshbito School in the Fort Defiance Agency of the BIA has been awarded to Cowley Brothers Enterprises, St. Johns, Ariz. The wells will be 700 to 900 feet deep to provide additional water for the school. One other bid of 69,463.75 was received.

Fugitives Flee Into Carson Forest After Courthouse Raid

National Guard and state police pursued a Spanish-American group led by Reies Tijerina into the Carson National Forest near Canjilon New Mexico after raiding Rio Arriba County Courthouse in Tierra Amarilla on Monday wounding two officers and taking hostages. One group member Gerry Noll was arrested south of Canjilon and others possibly slipped through lines as 400 guards and officers were sent home.

Court orders dismissed in Tierra Amarilla case

In Albuquerque AP report, U.S. District Judge H Vearle Payne dismissed federal orders seeking Tama Tijérina to produce a membership list for the Federal Alliance of Land Grants. The records were already seized and given to prosecutors with counsel consent. Tijérina remains sought by state officials after Monday raid.
