Navajos Demand Oil Audit by State Officials

A delegation from southeastern Utah Navajos pressed the state Board of Indian Affairs for a full audit of tribal oil and gas revenues spent under federal trust. They urged reallocation of UNDC funds to health care and education, and criticized meetings held far from Navajo communities, calling for accountability and closer tribal involvement.

Dynamics lays off forty four at Fort Defiance plant

General Dynamics Corp. cut 44 workers at the Fort Defiance facility on Friday. The layoffs affect a 280 staff, almost all Navajo, with a chance workers could be recalled based on workload. Company officials say it is not a industry trend and no other layoff plans are set.

Eagles dazzle at Albuquerque air show with elite formation

The Eagles Aerobatic Flight Team wowed crowds at the Albuquerque Southwest Airlines Air Show held at Double Eagle II Airport. Pilots Charlie Hillard Gene Soucy and Tom Poberenzy showcased their Eagle I biplanes with inverted flight systems and special gear. The New Mexico Air National Guard displayed A 7 fighters and highlighted their Gunsmoke 89 gunnery prowess. A F 16 fly by and Desert Eagles helicopter team complemented a large static display of military aircraft and missiles.

Kayenta graduate walks without wheelchair at ceremony

Lorraine Redhouse, 21, of Kayenta, Arizona, stepped across Monument Valley High School’s stage without her wheelchair to receive her diploma, delayed since a 1986 car accident.
