May unemployment climbs as graduates flood job market

The May jobless rate rose to 9.5 percent amid an influx of college graduates into a tight labor market. Unemployment totaled 10.5 million, with adults hit hard as joblessness reached 8.4 percent. The civilian labor force rose, offsetting hiring gains and nudging the rate higher.

Unidentified man stabbed in Gallup alley attack

An unidentified Tidian man was beaten and stabbed during the night and is in guarded condition at Gallup Indian Medical Center. Police found him shortly after midnight in the alley behind Eddie's Club at 412 North Ninth Street with severe injuries to the upper body.

Tailings cleanup cost eyed at 550 million dollars

Santa Fe officials report the DOE will spend about 550 million to stabilize 24 abandoned uranium tailings piles, including a 3.2 million ton Shiprock pile and a 3.9 million ton Ambrosia Lake site. Navajo Times editor reassigned after suspension
