James Earl Ray stabbed at Brushy Mountain Penitentiary

James Earl Ray, serving 99 years for the 1968 assassination of Martin Luther King Jr., was stabbed multiple times in the chest arm and neck in the Brushy Mountain law library. He was transported to Oak Ridge Hospital in stable condition undergoing surgery. Four inmates were detained, guards found a weapon, and the prison was locked down with authorities investigating.

Shooting on Gallup northside wounds resident

Gallup police seek a Gallup resident suspect after a man shot in the arm and waist on Tuesday. Paul Sandoval, 40, of 308 Wilson Ave, was hospitalized at McKinley General Hospital. The incident occurred at the Licy Martinez residence on Wilson Ave, and a woman nearby was struck.

Gallup suspect held on parole and assault charge possible

A Gallup man is jailed on a parole violation after an arrest tied to a rape reported Wednesday night. Police say the suspect, whose name is withheld, entered the victim’s home and made several advances she resisted. The case now goes to the district attorney for charging decisions. The 21-year-old victim was treated at a Gallup hospital.

Burglary charges amended by court in Grants

Two Grants residents Edwin Dickens and Shirley Dickens pleaded guilty to amended burglary charges tied to a Poison Canyon Mine incident. They were fined 50 dollars each plus 10 dollars court costs after a sheriff's office and state police investigation.
