Navajos Seek $100 Million in Suit Against U S Government
Harold E. Mott, Navajo tribes claims attorney, announced a suit filed May 28 in the U S Court of Claims seeking 50 to 100 million dollars. The action challenges severance taxes on oil and minerals from Reservation lands and tribal fund investments. Copies were given to the Navajo Tribal Council for review and questions.

Man Dies In Wreck Near Fort Wingate
A 65 year old Gamerco man, Mathias Torres, was killed when the grader he operated for Hamilton Brothers slid into a Santa Fe Railroad engine on a private siding at Fort Wingate Army Depot. The accident occurred about 4 40 a m as the grader crossed the track and was struck, turning the machine over and crushing the cab. Torres, who lived in Gamerco and never married, was removed to Rollie Mortuary with funeral rites pending. The incident drew investigators from the New Mexico State Police, McKinley County Sheriff’s deputies, Santa Fe Railroad police and Fort Wingate police.

Water Tribe Affirms Navajo Water Rights in CD-108-68
The Navajo Tribal Council unanimously passed a resolution protecting Navajo water rights from the Upper Colorado River Basin.
