Native American Appreciation Day Celebrated in Gallup
Ellis Tanner and sponsors host seventh annual Native American Appreciation Day at Tra ding Post south of Gallup with free admission. Events run 9 a.m. to night include drawings, live music, contests, games, 3 on 3 basketball, sheep riding, horse demonstration, a free throw contest and a 9 15 p.m. fireworks show. A separate Friday barbecue on Coal Avenue honors Native Americans with a 5 000 person capacity menu and rain tents.

NCC graduation ceremony awards 50 GED diplomas
Navajo Community College will honor a record 50 students who earned General Educational Development diplomas in a Saturday ceremony at the NCC gym. Lauren Bernally, director of the Learning Center, noted about 700 students started the program last August and 71.4 percent completed it after passing the final test May 17, with a reception following for graduates and families.
