Navajo Nation considers 1.4 million salary raise for delegates

WINDOW ROCK The Commission on Navajo Government Development will decide June 12 whether to raise each delegate’s salary from 25 000 to 35 000 a year, the first pay raise since the three branch government began in 1990. The commission’s 7 2 vote would push costs above 2.2 million annually for 88 delegates. If the commission forwards a recommendation, lawmakers cannot alter the figure, and the council would face a presidential veto risk from President Kelsey Begaye.
