Fires Rage Across Mount Taylor and Hole in the Wall Areas
In the Mount Taylor Ranger District eight wildfires sparked in seven days with five under one acre and controlled the same day. Large fires include the Long Fire near Bluewater Lake 2.5 acres, the Mesa Fire near Rice Park 3.25 acres, and the Del Fire north of Mount Taylor. Meanwhile two fires in The Hole in the Wall south of Grants burned 3,440 to 3,640 acres, with the Wall Fire about 30 percent contained and the Ranch Fire contained by 70 firefighters.

Croats Celebrate Culture With Picnic At McGaffey Lake
Gallup's Croatian community hosted an annual picnic at John T. Smith Wildlife Park drawing about 300 attendees. Lidia Rainaldi and Rev. Connell Lynch attended along with Steve Kennedy, a school lobbyist, and Ludy Grenko, who bakes povotica for regular customers. The event featured traditional foods such as povotica and stuffed cabbage, plus a Don Lipovac Polka Band from Kansas City. Dancers in Croatian costumes performed folk dances including the Chicken Dance, while children learned new steps from Latrissa Overman.

Delegates raid rainy day fund in Navajo Nation council
The Navajo Nation Council tapped 1.2 million from the Undesignated Reserve Fund and recommended 797,555 from the rainy day fund.
