Navajo Council to weigh pay hikes hemp law and more
Navajo Nation Council summer session will consider boosting delegates pay to 10 000 a year plus increased mileage and per diem while debating amending the criminal code to allow hemp cultivation and hemp related products and a fivefold rise in mileage. The body will also study removing sovereign immunity and letting disputes be heard in tribal or federal courts to aid joint ventures with NAPI and pota to grow on 15 000 acres for processing into foods.

Goat's milk dairy a labor of love in Gallup
Timothy Nelson runs Rocky Mountain Goat Dairy the only goat dairy in Gallup. He milks three goats daily and sells herb cheddar dill and garlic cheese for five dollars a brick while offering goat milk for animal consumption at three dollars a quart through Albertson's. Nelson, a Wisconsin native and fourth grade teacher, says lactose intolerant customers benefit from creamier milk with a vanilla scent and plans a field trip for his Red Rock Elementary class.

Two Die In Navajo Reservation Road Crashes
Two people died in separate Navajo Reservation crashes reported by the Law Enforcement Department. Gaylene H. Selina, 36, of Shungopavi Village Hopi Reservation, was ejected from a pickup on Arizona Route 87 near Dillon, and died when the vehicle rolled over. A five-year-old girl passenger from the same village was flown to Flagstaff Medical Center after also being ejected. The 1998 GMC pickup left the road after both left tires blew, then rolled four times. witnesses saw the event around 11:15 a.m. in the Dillon area. Police are unclear if the driver fell asleep or was distracted. A separate Chinle incident reports a pedestrian death, Calvin See, investigated by Chinle district police.

Navajo Election Set For October 3
