Another CCCC officer charged with inmate battery
Angele Contrel, a corrections officer at the Grants women's prison, resigned after inmate Anita Miranda accused her of battery in a hallway incident during inmate med pass. Miranda’s hair was caught in a door and she sustained bruises. CCA officials described the resignation as immediate and noted the misdemeanor battery charge now rests with Miranda to pursue in Magistrate Court.

Albuquerque Arrest Ties Man to Navajo Woman Murder
San Felipe Pueblo man Thomas Calabaza, 36, was arrested in Albuquerque on Tuesday in connection with the murder of 44 year old Betty Mae Francis. Francis died from a skull fracture, ruled a homicide by the Medical Investigator. Francis had left Calabaza after a troubled relationship and was allegedly stalked and threatened by him. A witness placed her with a man matching Calabaza’s description, and clothes found near the body matched her shirt from the day she left work.

No-kill shelter seeks homes in Gallup
