Youth build straw hogan near Laguna camp
A diverse crew including a Civil Air Patrol squadron from Doylestown Pennsylvania and AmeriCorps joins Native American groups to construct a straw hogan at Sacred Mountain Camp near Laguna Pueblo. About 80 volunteers have camped since July 8 and will stay another week as the project aims for a low cost, energy efficient prototype using straw bales and pallets for trusses. The hogan, designed by Santa Fe architects, balances heat storage with windows and adobe walls, and is expected to be finished by Saturday.
