Lawsuit against CSC ends without vote in county
In Gallup a planned lawsuit against Correc tional Services Corp. died before the McKinley County Commission voted. CSC managed the county jail from 1997 to January and faced allegations of profit sharing and contract breaches. Commissioners Shelly and Be centi Sr. declined to second a motion to file, saying the move was political and that kickback claims were unfounded. The case would have claimed CSC profited $4 million from housing out of county inmates and failed to secure written permission to house them locally. Bob Bass, CSC vice president, said profit-sharing talks were proposed but not signed, with the county and CSC at an impasse.

The Hopi Health Care Center in Polacca opened June 21 with an $8 million housing project for staff behind the hospital. The $40 million facility offers family practice plus ophthalmology, surgery, podiatry and telemedicine plans, employing about 140 staff with goals to reach 200.
