Cibola jury indicts two in Grants brawl
Grants residents Wilfred Salazar and Cardenio Chavez were indicted June 28 by the Cibola County grand jury on multiple aggravated battery with a deadly weapon charges. Salazar is accused of using a beer bottle to stab two men and a knife to attack another, with additional counts including battery and accessory charges. Chavez faces related aggravated battery and accessory counts, plus tampering with evidence for hiding a knife and cleaning evidence. Additional indictments include Frank Austin for embezzlement and Norma Pichardo for drug trafficking by possession with intent to distribute, while Gary Sprunk faces an aggravated battery charge.

Police chase driver on foot in Grants incident
Police patrol near Roosevelt Street narrowly avoided being hit by a gray pickup that ran a stop sign at Ash and Roosevelt. The vehicle fled after police activated lights and siren. Driver Paul Silva no Sandoval, 21, of San Mateo fled into a Cortez Street lot and bolted on foot. Beer cans spilled as he escaped, then briefly evaded officers before hiding in a bush.
