Navajo Nation speaker race reshaped as floor nominations loom
Up to Friday three candidates LoRenzo Bates Elmer Begay and Leonard Tsosic qualified for speaker of the 22nd Navajo Nation Council. Friday changes to the law will allow floor nominations when the council meets Monday after debate on the 1999 selection process. Johnny Naize claims a filing deadline dispute over his candidacy and says no prior deadline was discussed.

Casey Jim appeals murder conviction in Gallup case
Cosme Ripol filed an appeal on January 13 behalf of Casey Jim against the 11th Judicial District Division Five.
