Winter storms slam the region with 2-6 inches of new snow as Interstate 40 sees more accidents. The National Weather Service warns of blizzard conditions and strong winds from the west. AccuWeather cites 4 to 4.5 inches already in Gallup with 3 to 6 more inches possible.
The Navajo Board of Election Supervisors certified general election results Wednesday allowing the 24 elected officials to be sworn in at the January 11 inauguration. President-elect Ben Shelly attended as the board certified all but three contested seats.

Hershel Ashley, 26, was captured in Arizona on a first degree murder warrant for the December 23 shooting death of Warren Shirley, 39, outside the Klagetoh Apartments. He was arrested at 6:30 p.m. at a residence on Allentown Road and jailed on $100,000 cash bond. FBI involvement cited due to crossing state lines. court appearance delayed by weather and New Year holiday.
Deputies from the McKinley County Sheriff's Office responded to a drunk and disorderly call at 703 Rust about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday night. Rosalinda Tsosie said her son Junior Corfield and his partner Michelle Yazzie were in a half-naked state on the living room floor and resisting officers as they were awakened. Corfield went limp during an attempted lift while Yazzie rose and struggled.
