McKinley County proclaims December 29 1995 through January 2 1996 as Designated Drive Awareness Week. Shirts are given to designated drivers at area bars with slogans to promote safe driving. Five runners four boys and a girl depart Christmas Day for China to run in a five kilometer race as part of a 35 member group selected by the International Sports Exchange. Navajo educator Robert Sorrell of Morenci was named the 1995 New Mexico Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation. County Orders Destruction of Derelict Thoreau Home
